The Cu Chi Tunnels & the Cao Dai Temple at Tay Ninh

The Cu Chi Tunnels

The famous Cu Chi Tunnels are a network of over 200 Kms built by the Vietnamese during the war. The Southern Vietnamese (farmers, factory workers, teachers, students etc) simply couldn't bear the cowardly oppression of the then, Sai Gon (puppet) regime & formed the National Liberation Front.  The NLF or Viet Cong (as the Coalition of the willing used to incorrectly call them) had one of it's biggest bases here. The leadership of the NLF were housed directly below an American base so as to avoid any direct hits.

A visit here is well worth while & especially because some of the tour guides actually fought here.  If you want the truth, go to the source !

The Cao Dai Temple at Tay Ninh

For many years the French colonialists trained & financed the Cao Dai sect to become a real military force, the old divide & rule.  Along with the Hoa Hao sect they ruled with an iron fist & heaven help any of the local farmers who didn't pay bribes to them.

After the liberation of the South the Cao Dai sect has been disarmed & these days play a very peaceful & productive role in the Vietnamese society.

At the Temple in Tay Ninh there's a daily service conducted in one of the most beautiful temples in Vietnam.  It’s a combination of French, Chinese & Vietnamese architecture & the religion itself is a mix of a number of different faiths.
